Rock ‘n Roll Can Save Us

Fenway Park, Boston, 7/21/24

I kid you not, Rock and Roll can save us. Last night, we stepped into Fenway Park, all hopped up on newsfeed drama, and as we walked across the outfield to our seats, Mr. Grohl asked, “Do you like Rock and Roll?”

What happened next was…a remembering? An alchemy? A spiritual awakening? No, it wasn’t the booze (1 drink at a French café, welcome to pre-gaming in your 50’s), it was entering into one of America’s greatest churches—the Church of Rock and Roll—and jumping, fist pumping, head shaking, and singing, glorious singing, with a congregation of thousands that brought me love. When Mr. Grohl stopped the music and told us to give him our best scream, we unleashed the wounds of 38,000 American souls onto that field. And we healed. He just smiled and responded with “this is how the professionals do it” then sang that song back to us.

Get yourself to a Rock and Roll show. Go sober. Throw your arms up and your head back and let the bass clean out your chest cavity. Dance with the strangers around you. Sing and scream. Last night we took a group energy shower together. Today I feel clean. And I have 38,000 new brothers and sisters.

Thank you @foofighters for bringing everything you had and giving it to us so we could be healed. God bless Rock and Roll.
